News Briefs

The Silas Hunt Memorial Sculpture, located between Old Main and the Academic Support Building, was created by University of Central Arkansas professor of art Bryan Massey Sr.

The Fayetteville Farmers’ Market claimed the top spot in the 2012 America’s Favorite Farmers Market contest sponsored by American Farmland Trust.

A sculpture honoring Silas Hunt, the first African-American law student at the University of Arkansas, was dedicated on the UA campus last week.

In the latest Flyer book review, Roger Barrett examines “NW” by Zadie Smith. Barrett says “there will not be another book like this written until the next Zadie Smith novel, a novel that challenges you to notice. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.”

Razorback athletics has some good news and bad news. On Friday, the UA Board of Trustees approved the construction of three new athletic facilities, a Student-Athlete Success Center, a basketball practice facility and a baseball and track indoor training facility. On Saturday, the football team suffered an epic loss to Louisiana-Monroe, ending the chances of the Hogs winning a national title this year.
