Mayor Lioneld Jordan’s next town hall meeting is set for 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 inside the E.J. Ball Courtroom at the University of Arkansas School of Law on the UA campus.

Fayetteville author and award-winning poet Miller Williams was named the city’s 2011 poet laureate during last year’s town hall meeting on the UA campus.

The event, hosted by the university and the City of Fayetteville, is open to anyone interested in knowing more about local government issues. UA students, faculty, staff, and administration are particularly encouraged to attend.

Mayor Lioneld Jordan will be joined by several city staff members to provide information and to offer an opportunity for residents to ask questions about city projects, budget information, policies, and events.

As with all town hall meetings, this event is open to anyone interested in knowing more about local government issues. The meetings offer direct contact and conversation with Mayor Lioneld Jordan and various city department directors.

Recent Town Hall Meeting recaps:

  • Aug. 20, 2012 – Butterfield Trail Village
  • June 4, 2012 – St. James Missionary Baptist Church
  • March 12, 2012 – Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center

Directions:
The E.J. Ball Courtroom is located in room 240 of the U of A School of Law building at 1045 W. Maple Street. Enter the building from the south side (Student Union side) and head up the glass staircase in the middle of the lounge. The Town Hall Meeting will be in the first courtroom on the left.

    This looks like a case of using taxpayer funds for political purposes. Town Hall meetings in the past were scheduled once every quarter. Didn’t we just have one at Butterfield Village a couple of weeks ago? It must be election time. The last two, 4th quarter meetings that I found on the Flyer, were held in mid November and December. This one seems to be a bit rushed up.

    I think this is in conjunction with the town and gown stuff to get the University involved in the city.

    Looking at our past coverage, meetings were scheduled in the following months:

    2010 – March, May, August, October
    * I don’t recall a “Town & Gown” meeting that was held in 2010

    2011 – February (Town & Gown), March, June, August, November
    * February meeting was delayed until April due to a snow storm

    2012 – March, June, August, October (Town & Gown)
    * There may still be a fourth regular meeting sometime later this year. I’ll ask about that.
