Motorcycle riders cruise up Dickson Street during Bikes, Blues & BBQ 2011

Bikes, Blues & BBQ 2012 is set to officially begin on Wednesday, Sept. 26, but the first attendees have already arrived in Fayetteville for what is considered to be on of the largest motorcycle rallies in the country.

In other words, I think it was that little blonde girl from Poltergeist who said it best. “They’re here.”

The four-day event will once again feature a ton of outdoor live music, the annual barbecue competition, a Miss Bikes, Blues & BBQ pageant, a bike parade, and of course, thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the world.

Already noticed a few accidents with bikes. Regardless of your view of bikes blues and BBQ, please be careful of the bikes and pedestrians while driving around

The charitable and sometimes not so charitable event.

Sometimes charitable is right. For a rally that claims to be so large, the donations to charity are miniscule. They “claim” 400,000 (although that’s counting the same people 4 times), yet if they are lucky they might donate $50,000 to charity. That’s a whopping .125 cens per person (if you use their bogus attendance figures). Or its a whopping .50 if you use the realistic NWA Democrat Gazette figures of 100,000. Either way, a terrible charity fundraiser.

If you combine the years BBBBQ donated money to area charities with the years their cost overruns managed to yield zero dollars in donations, calling this a biker rally for charity should be illegal.

An area fashion show managed to gather more than 30K in donations. The chicken wing festival gathered several thousands for local charities. And yet, BBBBQ gets away with delaying their 990 forms again and again. Currently, the festival is a full two years behind on declaring exactly where the money came from and where it went.

Is Earl & Them on Saturday 4:30 the correct time? The Cate Bros are supposed to have a show down in Little Rock Saturday night at 7PM, back to back with a Levon Helm/Michael Burks tribute.

    • Dustin says:
      Tuesday, Sep 25, 2012 at 8:00 pm

Hi Blighity Blah. The BBB website, and the schedule they posted on Facebook still includes the Earl & Them show on Saturday. Maybe something’s changed? We’ll ask.

    • Dustin says:
      Wednesday, Sep 26, 2012 at 9:14 am

You were right. Earl & Them have been moved to Friday at 6:30 p.m. on the main stage. We found a few other updates, and made those adjustments to the schedule as well.

Supposedly 400,000 people attending this event and yet not even one night with an A list act. Not even a B-list act.

If this rally did anywhere near the numbers they claim to have you’d see Kid Rock one night, Zac Brown Band one night etc. And on top of those acts, you’d see other venues having Pat Benatar, Styx etc each night. Face it, the attendance figures for this are highly inflated and counting the same people over and over and over again.

i, for one, say it’s a good thing that kid rock is not going to be in town. that’s the last thing i want to hear over the rumble.

police are taking detailed complaints about reckless dangerous driving, excessive noise, illegal behavior this weekend and will review it all. call the fay police dept 587-3555, report what you see and hear to a dispatcher. repeated problems in your neighborhood? frequent detailed accurate reports are in order.

This is great information to have. Bikers speeding up my small residential street and revving their engines until the wee hours is not fun and freaks out my animals. I’m glad I don’t have to resort to trip wires!

Having said that, it looks like my rain dance is working. I hope the farmers in and around Northwest Arkansas get rain and rain and rain and rain.

Thanks for the info. What could they potentially do with that information after reviewing it? And out of curiosity, do Fayetteville police ever issue tickets to bbbq cyclists for driving through a neighborhood with a loud bike late at night?

      • info says:
        Wednesday, Sep 26, 2012 at 5:13 pm

wondered that myself—but at least no one will be able to say there weren’t any complaints. After I called last night on a specific section of College, the noise died down. If there were police cars in highly visible areas, even just parked, it would put a damper on the bad boys.

Who is on the board of BBBbq??

  9. Lori says:
    Thursday, Sep 27, 2012 at 7:40 am

How’s does one of the board members of BBBq bankrupt a Fayetteville tradition, owe several thousand in taxes to the alcohol beverage control, city of Fayetteville, local purveyors and still able to set up and profit from the beer/margarita garden at BBBQ? Plus he never paid me my last check. Someone should investigate this scam that is BBBBq. Is everyone on the take?
