This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to the winner, Melissa.

Sure. Country legend Don Williams is the singer of hits like “Tulsa Time,” “I Believe in You,” “It Must Be Love” and “Good Ole Boys Like Me.” Those are awesome old country songs.

And sure, Williams was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010 for his contributions to the genre.

It’s this quote in response to how his voice has remained strong despite an eight-year hiatus from the business, however, that best illustrates why Williams has come to be called the “Gentle Giant” of country music.

“I don’t do a whole lot of sitting around chit-chatting, laughing, and carrying on—especially when I’m on the road, where that just makes you tired, anyway,” he said. “Even at home on the farm there are literally days on end that I may not say anything but for an hour or two a day.”

What a badass.

Williams will be at Walton Arts Center on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to the show. Try to win ‘em.

How to enter

Williams’ music became popular during what we consider to be a golden era for country music. Leave a comment telling us the name of your favorite old country song, and you’re entered. If you can’t think of the name of an old country song, well, why are you entering this giveaway?

What you’ll win

One (1) lucky winner will each win two (2) tickets to the Don Williams performance on Oct. 9 at the Walton Arts Center.

A few rules (read ‘em carefully):

  • You may only enter this specific contest once.
  • This contest is open to anyone anywhere except Fayetteville Flyer writers, Walton Arts Center employees, and their immediate family members.
  • Contest is open until 12 p.m. CST on Friday, Sept. 28
Make sure you leave a valid e-mail address when filling out the comment form since that’s how we’ll contact you if you’ve won. Once we notify the winners, you’ll have 24 hours to respond via email to claim your prize.
  • You’ll have to provide us with your first and last name (if you win) and then be prepared to show a valid photo ID when picking up your tickets.

Thanks to the Walton Arts Center for sponsoring this contest. For more information about this performance or to purchase tickets, visit waltonartscenter.com.

I love Don Williams – love love love the mellow voice. One cannot help feeling good listening to him sing. Seeing Don Williams is on my bucket list right at the top. “I Believe in Love.” Now, can you all bring back Marty Robbins to sing El Paso City? What a legend!
