Construction is underway on a sidewalk improvement project at East Center Street in downtown Fayetteville.

The work involves replacement of the existing deteriorated sidewalks and the addition of brick borders, streetlights and tree wells to match improvements previously made in the surrounding area.

The sidewalks will include brick borders, streetlights and tree wells on both sides of the street.

Construction began Monday on the south side of the street, between College Avenue and the mid-block alley. Work on the north side will begin once the south side is substantially complete. Total construction time is estimated at about six weeks.

Crews will typically work from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will also utilize late night, early morning and weekend hours when needed, according to a news release.

Traffic will remain open at all times during the project.

For more information on the project, contact the city’s Transportation Division office at 575-8228 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

It’s a shame they aren’t expanding the sidewalk to where the cones are in the picture, maybe next decade.

Dan Coody would have done it differently. He has vision.

Yeah, let’s make it as difficult as we can for cars to use roads.

Or make it as easy as we can for pedestrians to use, and enjoy outdoor spaces. Smaller road doesn’t equal more difficulty in driving, looks like cars are moving right along. Center, is a wide one lane road, and does not make sense. The future is in outdoor seating and vibrant urban streetscapes. In due time, those sidewalks will be widened, when someone like Alderman Petty is mayor… trust me, I bought the Delorean from Doc Brown.

Center is a two lane street. Still. Petty is not mayor and Firetrucks need to get to the square and other buildings. The DeLorean was a failure.

I’m talking 10 years, Petty will be mayor, and Center will have outdoor cafes bro. Never underestimate the Delorean, bro. You’re just jealous old man Brown didn’t sell it to you bro. I have the Sports Almanac as well, made tens of thousands on the Razorback season so far, the Delorean will always be a success, bro

    Petty? Are you “high”, bro?

    • BummerBro says:

      actually… currently…. yes… i am… very “high” as a matter of fact… whats your point … Delorean still rules.

Now, get some funding for the Renaissance Tower and downtown will be complete. Then fix Archibald Yell and tear down the dilapidated houses and cut down the dead trees across town and we will be in business.

      Thursday, Oct 4, 2012 at 12:29 pm

The City has already sunk $10.8 million in that so-called public-private partnership that was supposed to build the Renaissance Hotel, and all we got was a mud pit with a crane that morphed into a barren private parking lot owned by the developers. Let’s just cut our losses and make sure it never happens again.
