The Friends of the Fayetteville Public Library will host their ‘largest book sale ever’ from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the library’s Rock Street garage entrance.

“The people of Fayetteville have donated over twice the amount of books they have in past,” said board member Jake Lamkins. “We have close to 10,000 titles for sale.”

Lamkins said hardback books will be priced at 50 cents and paperbacks will be 25 cents.

Proceeds from the sale will support the library. For more information or to join Friends of the Fayetteville Public Library, call 479-856-7104.

Just watched the Coody/Jordan chamber debate. Coody is passionate, articulate, informed on the issues and focused on the future. Mayor Jordan is reading a script (probably prepared by his staff as he is stumbling all over it) to try and defend the past. No mention of the future.
A clear choice for me to move Fayetteville “back to the future.”

[Why did you post your comment under this article? Has Mr. Coody taken credit for the FPL book sale?]

Of course Mr. Coody doesn’t have a real job, so he has plenty of time to bone up.

Here’s one measure of Mr. Coody’s passion: after absenting himself from public participation for some three-and-a-half years between being voted out of office and running for office again. After steadfastly refusing to answer repeated questions about why that was, he had this to say:
“….Here’s the beauty of our system: you can choose which kind of local government you want. I just want the town to be as progressive and livable as possible. I do not think we are headed there, so I am in the race. If we win, we will do cool stuff for the city. If we lose, I will do cool stuff for my wife and myself. Either way, I am a very happy camper! Cheers!”

Mr. Coody is passionate about Fayetteville, as long as he is the mayor.

BONUS– An interesting blast from the past, just in time for the twentieth anniversary of its publication:

@ David Franks Thanks for the bonus link http://www.uark.edu/~kshurlds/LAW/facade.html . This is the Coody I recall…. Thanks for the reminder. As a Coody supporter is fond of saying in her blog and editorials, “How Soon We Forget.”

What does the mayoral race have to do with a book sale?

DF, your passionate about the comments section on this website. I’m sure it will be a excellent hobby to continue through till the end, with so much to show your family for your efforts.

Hopefully though, once Dan “the man with the plan” Coody regains position as mayor, you will end this atrocious game show your trying to host on every single last thread and topic on the FF.

I find it even more hilarious this a.m that you would even strike at Dan’s employment to make a point, and go back to a libel lawsuit he brought against the times in 1992!!! Your so desperate, your as desperate as Don Marr working at Staffmark!

Dan Coody, after working hard for over 15 years for the citizens of Fayetteville decided to spend some time with his loving wife, which is a great relationship. In the past four years I don’t think anyone in the entire country could say they built the most Eco-friendly home with their own hands and ingenuity as Dan has. It’s a true inspiration, and he’s a great example to all of the citizenry of Fayetteville. Forever.

RE “DF, your passionate about the comments section on this website.”
More accurately, I enjoy the comments section, and I am dispassionate about commenting here. I consider carrying on a discussion to be an intellectual exercise, however little challenge is offered by many who comment here. If I were really passionate, I would lock the caps, pounce on the exclamation point, and lambaste you for your poor grammar.

RE “…you will end this atrocious game show your trying to host on every single last thread and topic on the FF.”
Note that my reply was to one of Mr. Coody’s supporters who made the same comment in three threads, including this totally irrelevant one. I put a prefatory remark in brackets, thinking that the Flyer admin might remove the comment and my reply. If you don’t like the way I reply to comments, look to your fellow supporters of “the man with the plan” for the solution.

RE “I find it even more hilarious this a.m that you would even strike at Dan’s employment to make a point…”
Thank you. I post for the amusement of others, as well as for their enlightenment.

RE “…and go back to a libel lawsuit he brought against the times in 1992!!!”
As I pointed out, I went back to a twenty-year-old newspaper editorial, which happens to be documented in the online course materials for a class at the law school. It makes the point that my concerns are not new. When making a contentious point in a discussion, the careful contributor will bolster his case with evidence. As the editorial notes, I am not the only person who thinks that Mr. Coody is running on ego, and it has been a concern for a long time:
“I believe his rhetoric about loyalties for Fayetteville is a thin facade covering his real loyalty — to himself.”
At the time, this editorial broke my heart, and I voted for Mr. Coody anyway. I now know better.

RE ” In the past four years I don’t think anyone in the entire country could say they built the most Eco-friendly home with their own hands and ingenuity as Dan has.”
It’s true that I didn’t build my house with my own hands, as I do not have the background in construction, and it’s true that my house isn’t as energy-efficient as Mr. Coody’s because I didn’t have the connections or resources needed for access to some of the technology, but I did apply my ingenuity to building a fairly energy-efficient house within the last four years. There can be only one most eco-friendly home, and it’s lovely that Mr. Coody built it. It’s a shame that he hasn’t yet explained how its construction is particularly relevant to people of ordinary means, to rehab and redevelopment of existing housing, or to spec building. And it’s a shame that it kept him from participating in the local politics that he says he is so passionate about, because that gives him a strong air of sour grapes.

Game show? You lose. Come back and play again sometime. That’s what the forum is for.

DF, Always an excuse from you for something. And this is a comments section, not a forum. I’m not quite sure how you haven’t figured that out yet, seeing as how inexplicably brilliant you are.

Sour Grapes is when Lioneld Jordan is in Tim’s Pizza pounding on the bar side exclaiming” Do you know who I am!” when he was an ordinary councilman, just because the Tims crew didn’t have his pie ready in time.

Sour Grapes is months after the election in 2008 Lioneld not even giving Dan the courtesy of a conversation at the farmers market and exclaiming and barking “I’m the mayor, I’m the mayor!” and walking off.

I was able to witness this, and that is what soured many of my grapes on the type of communicator that Lioneld
is/has been to those other than himself interested in promoting Fayetteville’s future.

I was even told Lioneld had even tried to ban Dan from stepping into city hall because his presence may disrupt some of the work of the employees, who care so much for Coody. No wonder all your broken record ?s of where have you been in 4 years have resulted to not much debate as you’d like.

And with the attitude that your here to challenge everyones opinion but your own, there’s no wonder you look to make this your day job and cast your opinion as the mediating voice for the comments of the FF.

@TMWTP – Alright, timeout. If you want people to take you seriously you need to learn the difference between your and you’re. I count no less than 5 misuses above. I’m not trying to be mean. Just trying to help you with your credibility. You can’t say, “Your an idiot,” without sounding like one yourself.

I didn’t say anyone is an idiot. Glad you’re the grammar police. lol
If I wanted this to be proof read I could send it on to my father with his Phd in English and Rhetoric before I hit send. I’m typing this from my phone, and I’m really quick with it. Seems DF takes his whole day and thought to get everything exact instead of just spittin it. This is the Internet, and comments.

RE “DF, Always an excuse from you for something.”
I provide reasons. You are welcome to try to refute them as such.

RE “And this is a comments section, not a forum.”
And where are public comments made and public discussions held? Why, in a forum, of course.

RE “how inexplicably brilliant you are.”
In most cases, brilliance isn’t easily explained, though both of my parents were very intelligent. Nikola Tesla– now /there’s/ inexplicable brilliance.

RE “And with the attitude that your here to challenge everyones opinion but your own”
I welcome a challenge to my opinion. When you are ever able to provide one, please post it.

      @MWTP–
Not sure where you get your info, but never forget that context is always important. Unfortunately, Mayor Jordan has, at times, had to assert to those present that HE was the Mayor and not Mr. Coody. Why? Because Mr. Coody continued to refer to himself as “Mayor”, even after Mayor Jordan took office in 2009, and even in the presence of Mayor Jordan. Yes, I was there.
As for those employees who “care so much for Coody”, please show me one. There has never been one employee of the City that I have spoken with in the last 3+ years that had anything good to say about working in Mr. Coody’s administration.
Finally, just because one posts using a phone doesn’t mean they are somehow absolved of the responsibility to proofread their stuff. This post proves the point.

    • David Franks says:
      Thursday, Nov 1, 2012 at 12:35 pm

Like your day job, my day job affords me the opportunity to express my opinion online. My day job does not afford me the luxury of castigating others for expressing their opinions, however. Yet you appear to suffer from day-job envy.

      • The Man with The Plan says:
        Thursday, Nov 1, 2012 at 12:44 pm

You’re obviously one to castigate Dan Coody for his opinions, and must envy the last four years of his accomplishments personally.( ahh, now I get it- he built a better house than you)

For you to ask a ? of why someone would post comments under this topic, this should ultimately be the ? you ask yourself. Every single topic comes back to your posting, and to do it in such a way as this. your “Bonus”

        • David Franks says:

RE “You’re obviously one to castigate Dan Coody for his opinions”
You need to read more carefully before you post (more carefully, I would hope). While I disagree with much of what Mr. Coody says, I have never castigated him for expressing his opinion; in fact, I have complimented him on his willingness to opine here. Nor have I castigated anybody else for the act of expressing an opinion. That is tantamount to telling people to shut up, which is never a good foundation for an argument.

RE “For you to ask a ? of why someone would post comments under this topic…”
I simply noted that the first comment was irrelevant to the article above.

RE “…this should ultimately be the ? you ask yourself.”
Asked, and answered. I posted identical responses to identical posts in each location. The fact that you chose this irrelevant location to have this conversation says more about your lack of discernment than my willingness to have an irrelevant conversation.

RE “Every single topic comes back to your posting”
Thanks to people such as yourself. Maybe you should just let it go.

Uh…. Back to the book sale.

How are they going to put out 10,000 titles to browse? Will these be organized, or pick through, or a list, or how does the actual sale work?
