2012 Fayetteville municipal candidate campaign contribution and expenditure reports

Staff photo

Mayor Lioneld Jordan, Ward 2 Alderman Matthew Petty and Ward 4 City Council hopeful Alan Long have so far raised the most money in their respective municipal races this season, according to campaign contribution and expenditure reports filed yesterday.

State law required any opposed municipal candidate who received or spent more than $500 to file official reports with the County Clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Mayoral candidates

According to those reports, Jordan raised $37,161 while his opponent, Dan Coody, raised $29,370.

Jordan’s campaign, which carried over $3,132 from the 2008 mayoral race, listed 147 contributions of more than $50. The largest contributions came from the Fayetteville Fraternal Order of Police and the Fayetteville Firefighters Association, who each donated $2,000.

Coody’s campaign listed 85 contributions, with the largest donations – $2,000 each – coming from ARPC, a Realtor political action committee; and citizens Bill Conner, Michelle Russell and John M. Walker.

Coody, who lists a $5,000 personal loan to his campaign, has so far spent more money than Jordan. Coody’s report shows $25,384 in campaign expenditures while Jordan’s shows $20,612.

More than half of Jordan’s money was spent on newspaper advertisements. According to his report, Jordan spent $11,861 for ads in the Northwest Arkansas Times and The Free Weekly. He spent $8,735 on other advertising and $15 for office supplies.

Coody’s campaign expenses were much more broad. He listed $8,218 in various advertising costs such as signs, brochures and web ads; $4,500 for polling; $4,310 for newspaper advertising; and $1,966 for direct mail. He also paid seven campaign workers a total of $3,344.

With less than a week remaining before the Nov. 6 general election, Jordan has $16,548 left to spend while Coody has $8,996 on hand.

City Council candidates

Ward 2 incumbent Matthew Petty, who listed $276 in personal loans to his campaign, has so far raised $1,685.

According to documents at the county clerk’s office, no other Ward 2 candidate filed reports meaning Ryan Abshire and Adam Fire Cat have each raised and spent less than $500.

In Ward 4 – the only other contested municipal race – four out of five candidates filed reports.

Alan Long, who listed a $5,332 personal loan to his campaign, raised $1,565; Terry Coberly raised $1,300; Mike Emery raised $495; and J.P Peters, who lists a $10,000 bank loan toward her campaign, raised $280.

William Chesser did not file a report, meaning he raised and spent less than $500.

Please consider posting the mayoral campaign contribution and expenditure reports online. If you did make them freely available, you’d be providing a great public service. Thank you.

The story is behind the paywall, but the contribution and expenditure reports are not.

Why is Mike Emery listed at $495? Did he file an unnecessary report?

He probably spent more than $500.
