Update: Brinda Bloyed Legg, the original Brinda who opened the restaurant more than 47 years ago, has confirmed via a Facebook post that the restaurant is closed for good.
Sorry to all our patrons…my Sons are going to do different ventures. 47 years is a long time. The property will be up for sale soon. Time to move on. Glad to know our burgers will be missed. They were the best.
We don’t want to draw any conclusions here, but let’s just say that we have some concerns about long-time Fayetteville burger (and onion ring) makers, Brenda’s Bigger Burger.
Here are the facts. They haven’t been open when we’ve tried to stop by for lunch on at least two separate occasions over the past couple weeks, during hours in which they have historically always been open for lunch.
There’s a growing stack of mail on the order counter that has been slid under the pick-up window.
Our attempts to reach the owners have been unsuccessful due to the fact that the phone number to the restaurant has been disconnected.
I don’t even want to say it.
Can someone tell us that everything is okay, and that nothing has happened to the much beloved Brenda’s Bigger Burger?
Someone. Anyone. Please?

Been wondering this for a few weeks myself. A friend of mine messaged the owner on FB to inquire but has received no response. I’m hoping for the best…
heard they closed for good – family issues
I have heard the same. Some sort of family issue that has caused them to be closed for good. Close to a month now, I believe.
I’ve lived in Fayetteville all my life and I’ve never had one of their burgers. :/
How sad! The VERY best good old time greasy(in a good greasy way)burgers! With EVERYTHING on ‘em if you want it. The buns were at least 6″ in diameter and what was in it fit just perfect. Gotta go get photos of it before I can’t. I moved here in 1959 and went to high school with Brenda. Thanks Brenda for the great food and memories too!!
That’s ashame.
Maybe the owner of the land decided to sell the land right from underneath the owner of Brenda’s – who knows though ehh sadly they are closed ..
I never got a chance to eat there, but now I wish I could! I love these “Ma and Pa” burger joints. They have the best food. One of my favorites is the “Dairyette” in Mt. Ida. If you are traveling through Mt. Ida on HWY 270, you gotta stop there for a burger and a shake.
Unless the earth has tipped on its axis, Barnett’s Dairyette in Siloam Springs is well worth a stop– perhaps even a trip. Suzy-Q in Rogers is good, too.
I have eaten enough of Brenda’s burgers over the years to be very sorry to see the place close.
I don’t mean to assume anything, nor regard the basis of my opinion as fact. However, after looking at the city’s HMR reports over the past few years. Brenda’s Burger always seemed to be on the “City Attorney” section of the list . Now I cannot confirm that as fact, and that honestly has nothing to do with reasons for closings. Just pointing out something I seem to remember.
I’m sad. This was the best burger in town and I had planned on eating there this weekend because I haven’t in a while. God dammit.
?
Brenda’s had a pretty good lunch crowd, and I kindof thought all that new walking traffic going through there with the new condos would help. Will miss it.
We’ve still got Art’s.
I wouldn’t mind seeing another Burger Joint go into that space.
Fayetteville’s burger scene will be lacking without this famous staple.
What now? I mean what other burger joint is gonna take up the slack for this loss?
Does Wes’s Barbecue still make those big cheeseburgers? Not the same thing (thick versus thin patty), but they were good. He also had tater tots. I lived in Beverly Manor in 1990 and Wes often supplied my evening victuals.
Yes and they have specials too. Chicken fried steak sandwich is good too but they’re frequently out of it.
F my life! Brenda’s was my “go to” hangover burger. What am I supposed to do now, stop drinking?
Amen, brother — hangover burgers, for SURE.
Art’s make a fine burger, but you need an oxygen mask in there.
Wes’s is still crankin em’ out! Still got the “tots’, too!
I hear good things about the burger Patti on wedington (right by green sub) they have odd hours though
Suzy Q Drive-In in Rogers is well worth the trip. I love their Blue Moon burger and curly fries.
Surely someone will step up and buy this place for her. And here’s a tip be open 5-7 days a week and you will make more money. It was a roll of the dice catching her open.
Good burger.
Will the Flyer, being the great media you are, do a follow-up with possible listing price of the building? Buyers? Etc.?
Brenda’s burgers have always been outstanding, but by far the tastiest burger in this town these days (much better than Art’s, which is damned good) is at Legacy Blues Lounge, where they add special spices to the beef. It’s delicious.
When the older generation of the family sold the land across the street (where Kum and Go is now building its new store), Brenda’s was doomed. Can’t imagine no one in the family cares what goes on the restaurant site. Hope someone with a sense of Fayetteville history and memory of the great burgers produced there for decades with step up and buy it. Just another piece of the Town Branch Neighborhood (see Townbranchwatershed.blogspot.com) being wiped off the map for something that won’t be as good as it was.
Second that, Burger. Their fries are also very good, and they make THE BEST fried jalapenos you will ever eat. I miss them terribly.
I would like to buy this property and start Mike D’s burgers- please let me know how I can take over and supply the best hangover burger and recreational burger in all of Fayetteville
What’s the time? Its time to get ill burgers!
Mike D, pick up the slack and make me the best recreational burger in all of Fayetteville. I need some recreational food after a long day of Kentucky Oil Riggin.
RIP – This was truely the best Burgers in Fayetteville!!
Great fries as well.
The city of Fayetteville makes it hard for small buisinesses to stay alive. This tax and that tax resturaunt taxes are the highest . 47 years is a very long time for any place to be around. It will be truly missed. Good luck to the owner in your new ventures. Brendas will never be forgotten and no one in town could even come close to the food i have eaten there.
Apparently the closing of Brenda’s was a family issue, not a tax issue. Every business collects taxes of some sort, and the amount of the tax is irrelevant. It seems clear that the food at Brenda’s was good enough to cause aficionados to overcome the issue of taxes.
There was no family issues at all.
and unless you worked there or you are a relative..i dont think things like that should be said.
From the article above:
“Sorry to all our patrons…my Sons are going to do different ventures.” That is a family issue, not a tax issue.
that is not a family issue. you stated this like there were problems.
I did not intend to imply that there is a dysfunction in the family; I used the word “issue” because that is the word that is most often used when taxes are discussed. People seem to not like taxes, so they are an “issue” rather than a “matter”.
My lovely wife and I, and many of our friends, have been great fans of Brenda’s for many years. If you ever wrote up my order or prepared my magnificent repast, I thank you.
For all of you “speculating” about what happened here allow me to set the record strait for you…
I have known this family for almost thirty years and they are as close to me as any blood relative that i have.
I can assure you that there are NO tax issues, no family “issues” or any other “issues” for that matter.
One of the brothers already owns another successful business and the other brother does not want to put up with all of the headaches of running a reastaurant, as it is one of the most tiring and thankless businesses in the world.
It is a Fayetteville institution and im sorry to see it go. But 1 thing i know for sure is that the only reason they chose to close was to persue another path in their lives.
Those of you ar speculating or saying “I heard”, have no idea. So find something else to do.
If i still lived in Fayetteville, i would take it from them in an instant because it is probably one of the only businesses left in Fayetteville that has a clean slate without debt or “Tax Issues”.
Good luck to Brin, C and C and thanks for the memories.
My question is, why was Brenda’s always listed on the “City Attorney” section of the HMR reports? A section reserved for HMR’s that haven’t paid the HMR tax, requiring the attorney to take action? I understand them wanting to pursue different paths, and that causing the business to close. However, just out of curiosity, why did they always owe tax money?
What movie staring Peter Fonda..starts out showing.. Brenda’s bigger burger, and the Swinging Door..
not a quiz.. for my info..
Fighting mad..filmed in 1975
Who cares about who owes taxes..jeez wish thats all i had to worry about mrs. Kravitz…get a life
Without taxes, how will we subsidize the bikerfest?
Im sure it got paid or it wouldnt of been there 47 years.that place has given food to hungry people that came there asking for food many many times.so how bout focusing on some positive.thats whats wrong with this world today.you only have one life..wasting time on worrying about who has paid whatever is not on my to do list.
Someone from a food truck could move in there and give fayetteville a great new non-burger experience. It could still involve meat and fried potatoes but maybe with an international twist. maybe?
