That’s how it is *supposed* to be, but trying to use the “jughandle” then turn left on Joyce is a joke. Joyce should never has been extended, but I guess the city fathers only care about tax revenue and not traffic jams.

The 71 Bypass was built in 1970, I think. Nice of the Fayetteville and AHTD to wait 40+ years to build this. when it probably costs 10 times more now, than it would have originally.

U-Turns are not illegal there, Anton. If you re-read the article above, Paragraph 2, it says people normally make U-turns here; it does not say the Uturn is illegal, because it isn’t. Uturns are permitted from the far-left turning lane, in that spot. If you are in the right lane, then use the ramp to get on Joyce and turn left instead. Either way works. But the flyover will work better, when completed.

I’ve never seen a ‘no U turn’ sign there. its ok unless it says you can’t. pls someone check this out.

If you’re talking about what I think you are (veering right off College), turning left onto Joyce from that stop sign is next to impossible. There is always a line of westbound cars stopped there on Joyce, waiting to turn left onto southbound College. Making the illegal U-turn is the only way to get on 540 if you are driving north on College. Unless of course you take Joyce all the way to Mall Avenue, and then enter 540 in front of Target, which presents a new set of problems and obstacles. That whole area is a cluster and a great example of the importance of planning for growth. Hopefully the flyover will alleviate some of these problems.

I thought they were, too. But then, I keep missing the memos when they change things around here. I tend to avoid that area of town, so if there are new signs there, I’ve missed them.

I believe U turns are permitted at that intersection for northbound traffic and have been for some time.

Good point, I made that “take your life in your hands” manuever every day for about 5 years.
Also, this plan does not allow for an easy way to get from the hospital area to the mall area. You can see Cox from Target, but it takes 10 minutes to drive. There is no way to bike or walk, either.

I love how they note how many cars are making illegal U-turns. The signs clearly read that you have to turn to the right, get on Joyce and then turn on to southbound College to go to Fulbright Expressway. Every single person who makes that U-turn is breaking the law and the police do nothing about it.

There are some other local restaurants in that area….Grub’s Uptown, Buck Nekkid, Kobe, OK China Buffett and over on Joyce is Mojitos and Burger Life. I think those are all local and there might be some more I can’t think of.

This is the first time I’ve seen a comment about Trader Joe’s in F’ville. I too would like to see one in town, but TJ’s usually requires denser areas that are not completely car dependent and are closer to residential areas–i.e., not here. Plus, as far as I can recall, are there any restaurants in this area that are not chains? Noodles is the only one I can think of. The flyover will provide better access of course, but it will do little to change the character of the area. If anything, I suspect we will see an increase in box store development. But north Fayetteville is where the boxes belong, so that’s okay I guess. I personally think a full-scale roundabout would have been better, or at least more creative and funky.

good idea, mmueller! This development will be especially nice for encouraging more business development in that area. (desperate pleas for Trader Joe’s) It would be great to see a few more restaurants here with staying power, ie, good management/business practice.

Now that the flyover is in the works, it would be nice to extend Van Ashe through the cul-de-sac in the photo to tie in at the road next to “Buck Nekkid BBQ “.

It is great that the flyover is going up but the interchange still needs work. An connection from eastbound Fulbright to east Joyce via Vantage Drive needs to be considered. This connection would eliminate the need to cut across 3 lanes of North College in a very short distance in order to travel east of Joyce. Anyone who has had to make that maneuver knows it is dangerous and technically illegal although I’ve never seen anyone get a ticket.
