By: Don Wed, 21 Nov 2012 14:07:03 +0000 As a member of the “group” who challenged the Rhoda Adams change to the 5 person rule, I want to point out that a FOIA request is an important part of government. Rhoda would not meet with the “group” to discuss why we were against it. We were left with no option but to FOIA any emails pertaining to the proposed 5 person rule. Alan Long worked with the group and was able to calm down a vast majority of them.

Further, if you get a copy of the actual report filed against RHoda, it was not filed by Alan Long. It was actually filed by a person living in the area. IF you talk to the prosecuting attorneys office you will find that it was the person that filed the complaint who gave the prosecuting attorney Alan’s name. The prosecutor on the case then contacted Mr. Long. who answered questions and said that he was not interest in any legal action against Ms. Adams.

Though one member of Ward 4 felt that he needed to go to the prosecuting attorney, the remaining members of the large group of concerned citizens simply wanted truthful answers. For the record the Emails clearly showed that this proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance came from one person, through Rhoda Adams. Mrs. Adams could have handled the situation better by simply saying that Paula wanted a zoning change in order to build a new development…this was not what was said…go back on the city web cite and look at the video’s yourself.

As far as any statements that Alan Long was behind a blog…not true. Though I know who was behind that blog, I feel its best to let the past rest on that issue. What is sad is that instead of thanking someone for being politically active in protecting our neighborhoods, you are condemning him for it.

I personally want someone who has already proven that he will fight for what he believes. There are many challenging issues that face our city. I want a candidate who will not just go along because the other representative from our ward wants him too do so. I want someone who is going to investigate an issue…not just rubber stamp an idea. I want someone who will meet with his neighbors and listen to their concerns..not ignor them. The only agenda I see here is Rhoda Adams grinding her axe against the very people she represents.

It is a sad time when people of this town look down on others for having a political voice. I know Alan Long and I call him a friend. I also know that he is the only candidate who has been involved in city government for years prior to this race, the only candidate who attended Ward 4 meetings for years prior to this race, the only candidate willing to stand up against officials (knowing that it may not be popular) when he felt strongly that they were not listening to the concerns of the citizens, and the only candidate who started a non-profit charity that has given thousands of dollars of goods to the animal shelter……all of this was done years before this Ward 4 race….

Who do I want…A person that has cared enough about Fayetteville to actually be a participate in the conversations in city government…not a bystander!

By: Don Wallace Wed, 21 Nov 2012 03:50:53 +0000 This is a critical election in which we will be choosing our representative to work alongside Rhonda Adams and with everyone else in the City Council. Mike Emery has the ability to do this well; his opponent does not.

Remember, as you go to the polls, that Mike Emery was not the one who FOI’d the City and gained access to our Aldermen’s personal Email accounts; Mike Emery was not the one who filed a criminal complaint against one of our Aldermen (a complaint which was later found to be baseless); and Mike Emery was not the one who set up the website “Wake Up, Fayetteville”, on which Rhonda Adams was called a liar. This was all done by his opponent.

Mike Emery has a clean record and a good record at working well with other people. I urge you to vote for him in this runoff election.

By: RJ Wed, 21 Nov 2012 03:30:39 +0000 Mike Emery seems to be extremely passionate about serving Ward 4 and does not have his own agenda. He was down to earth and “real” when I spoke with him. Very approachable.
I think Emery will work well with the council members and Mayor Jordan. Diversity is good, but too much diversity will end up with nothing ever getting accomplished. Both Sarah Lewis and Rhonda Adams have endorsed Emery. Some might disagree, but I believe both ward positions should be on the same team and work together not against each other.
Emery has earned my vote!
