Since Walmart on Campus opened in the Garland Center in January 2011, the University of Arkansas has been home to the smallest Walmart store in the nation.

Soon, however, that distinction will belong to a new store planned on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

According to an article in the university’s newspaper, the retail giant is planning a new store to occupy a 2,500-square-foot space previously home to a Ribs n Blues restaurant.

By comparison, the campus location at the University of Arkansas occupies roughly 3,300 square feet.

The new Georgia Tech store would be the second on-campus location for Walmart. According to the article, the new “nation’s smallest Walmart” is expected to open in fall 2013.
