This giveaway is now closed.

Memphis is a place for music.

It is considered by many to be the birthplace of the blues, and has produced some of the biggest, most innovative names in rock ‘n’ roll.

The city – located just a few hours drive from here – has even inspired a multiple Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name.

Memphis will stop the Walton Arts Center for a string of performances from Feb. 5-10, and we’ve got two pairs of tickets to give away to the show.

Win ‘em.

How to enter

There is arguably no city in the world with a richer musical history than Memphis. It has been home to legendary performers like B.B. King, James Cotton, Al Green, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, and countless others.

Based loosely on the story of a Memphis radio DJ and a club singer looking for her big break, Memphis touches on a piece of that expansive musical history.

Leave a comment telling us the name of your favorite Memphis musician, and you’re entered. If you need a cheat sheet, here’s decent place to start.

What you’ll win

Two (2) winners will win two (2) tickets to the Feb. 5 performance of Memphis at Walton Arts Center.

A few rules (read ‘em carefully):

  • You may only enter this specific contest once.
  • This contest is open to anyone anywhere except Fayetteville Flyer writers, Walton Arts Center employees, and their immediate family members.
  • Contest is open until 12 p.m. CST on Friday, Jan. 25
Make sure you leave a valid e-mail address when filling out the comment form since that’s how we’ll contact you if you’ve won. Once we notify the winners, you’ll have 24 hours to respond via email to claim your prize.
  • You’ll have to provide us with your first and last name (if you win) and then be prepared to show a valid photo ID when picking up your tickets.

Thanks to the Walton Arts Center for sponsoring this contest. For more information about this performance or to purchase tickets, visit waltonartscenter.com.

I’ve gotta go with the real king. BB King. I saw him in Houston on the 11th. He’s 89 and still killing it on the guitar.

  9. Jake says:

He’s relatively recent and by no means a classic choice, but Jay Reatard is what I think when I think modern Memphis music.

I love everything Memphis. The music scene for decades has been one of the best in the world. I am an even bigger Elvis fan. He was the total package of talent, showmanship, looks and an amazing humanitarian. No one has or still does more for the city of Memphis even now that he is gone than Elvis Presley and his legacy.

  24. Donna Smith says:

Oh man, going to have to go with Al Green, but obviously Elvis is a close second. Kudos to Jake’s former comment about Jay Reatard. There’s so many musicians and great music coming out of Memphis. Tough to choose just one.
