The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA) will return to Walton Arts Center for its third performance of the 2012-13 season on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The new show, Masterworks II, features popular works such as Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 in B-Flat Major and others.

The show will also include a performance by guest pianist Ching-Yun Hu.

“This is an extraordinary chance for Northwest Arkansas to hear Ching-Yun Hu, who is one of the best young pianists out there,” said SoNA conductor Paul Haas.

Ching-Yun Hu was scheduled as the guest artist for SoNA’s Masterworks II concert last season, but due to a finger injury, she was unable to perform. Her mentor Sergei Babayan, however, stepped in to take her place, and Ching-Yun attended the concert as part of the audience.

Also during the show, musicians from the Youth Symphony of the Ozarks (part of the Ozarks Philharmonic Youth Orchestra) ensemble will perform a rendition of Farandole by Bizet side-by-side with the players from SoNA.

A creative conversation with Maestro Paul Haas is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the arts center’s Starr Theatre, and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. inside Baum Walker Hall.

Tickets range from $28-48 for adults, and are on sale at waltonartscenter.org.
