The date is set for the 2013 Block Street Block Party. Organizers recently announced the annual event will return on Sunday, May 19, and that applications are open for vendors, sponsors, and community groups who’d like to participate in the festival.

This week’s Pet Scoop column discusses using a crate for your dog. Bill McQuade highly recommends it, and makes his case for why it’s not cruel.

This week’s public calendar includes a Street Committee meeting on Monday, City Council on Tuesday and several other meetings throughout the week.

The Arkansas men’s basketball team beat Tennessee 73-60 on Saturday. The Hogs face the No. 4-ranked Florida Gators at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in Bud Walton Arena.
