Local animal shelters offer adoption specials this week

Good Boy Roy, one of the adoptable black cats available at Fayetteville Animal Shelter for $14 through Feb. 14.

If you’re looking for a new furry friend, both the Fayetteville Animal Shelter and the Washington County Animal Shelter are running adoption specials this week.

The Fayetteville Animal Shelter is offering any black or partially black cat, or any pit bull or pit bull mix for only $14 through Thursday, Feb. 14.

Fayetteville Animal Shelter superintendent Justine Lentz said the shelter just has more black cats and pit bulls than usual right now.

“I don’t know if there’s ever been a study on it, maybe it’s just that there are genetically more black cats, but we just seem to have a lot right now,” she said. “Some of them have been here for a long time, and we just wanted to see if we could do something to help.”

On Saturday, Feb. 16, the Washington County Animal Shelter will offer free adoptions for all black dogs and cats, thanks to a sponsorship by the Animal League of Washington County.

All pets will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on shots regardless of the amount of the adoption fee at both local shelters.

The Fayetteville Animal Shelter, located at 1640 S. Armstrong Road, is open Monday through Friday from 10:00. a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Washington County Animal Shelter is located at 801 West Clydesdale Drive, and is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
