Thanks, Caleb. Here’s more from the Encyclopedia of Arkansas on the history of the official state flag.

Arkansas’s own Johnny Cash would have been 81 today today, yet Micheal Bolton get the nod. For shame!

That’s right, Jdoug. This September marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Johnny Cash.

Other interesting birthdays of the past for today include blue jean manufacturer Levi Strauss, who died in 1902; Corn Flakes inventor John Harvey Kellogg, who died in 1943; and actor, comedian and TV host Jackie Gleason, who died in 1987.

The man in black, and the flag in red white and blue! Long live the great state of Arkansas
