Downtown parking deck input session set for March 12

An abstract conceptual drawing shows what a parking deck could look like at Spring Street and School Avenue on the southeast corner of the Walton Arts Center campus (not a representation of the final design, materials or textures).

City officials will host a public input session next week to discuss design options for the planned downtown parking deck.

The meeting will immediately follow the 4:30 p.m. City Council agenda-setting session on Tuesday, March 12 in room 326 of the City Administration Building at 113 West Mountain Street.

The session will include a brief presentation by the city’s parking deck team – including staff and representatives from Garver Engineers and AFHJ + Kb Architecture. The public is invited to attend and provide comments.

The 246-space deck is set to be built on the southeast corner of the Walton Arts Center campus at Spring Street and School Avenue. City Council members voted unanimously in December to approve the location over two other sites – one at the south end of the West Avenue parking lot across from the Walton Arts Center, and one at the School Avenue parking lot by Kingfish.

For more information on the planned parking deck, visit our topic archives or the city’s parking deck webpage.

I don’t understand why we need more parking. We need better roads and sidewalks first.

Parking more cars will keep them off the streets and sidewalks, which will be an immediate improvement in the streets and sidewalks.
