Friday Events, March 8

Water Liars

Red Barn Ramblers, the band made up of an all-star lineup of local, regional, and national-caliber talent, will play a benefit for long-time Dickson Street doorman Neill Williamson on Friday, March 8 at George’s Majestic Lounge. The show starts at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door, and all the proceeds benefit Neill.

Water Liars returns to town for a show with local songwriter Phillip Farris at Nightbird Books Friday night. We’ve been excited about the band ever since they appeared on our calendar for their first show in Fayetteville last summer. Since then, we’ve pretty much worn out their record Phantom Limb here at the Flyer office. Admission is $5 at the door, and it’s an all ages show

Fayetteville-based band Boom Kinetic signed a multi-record contract with Virginia-based indie label, Brain Fuse Records on Thursday, and they’re celebrating with a show at George’s Saturday night. Tickets are $10.

You can see them all on Saturday, however, when the bands come together to raise money for sound system improvements at Smoke & Barrel Tavern. Admission is $5.

Beastie Boys DJ Mix Master Mike is back in town for a show at George’s Saturday night. Tickets are $20.

Good set of events coming. I’m going to Red Barn Ramblers at George’s — you should really check out their saxophone player Charlie Chalmers (read his wikipedia entry… Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Dusty Springfield, he plays on many famous albums). That said Tanglewood Branch is to be commended for keeping the music coming along with their brews and food — Dead Irish Blues and Jeff Kearney shows at Tanglewood (on South School near 15th Street) sounds very fun!
