The large bar space at 402 W. Dickson St. will once again have a new name.

The space that has been called Layla’s, Art’s Place, CD Lounge, The Gypsy, Froggy’s, and most recently, Rogue On Dickson will close on Friday, May 31, and reopen the following week under new ownership as The Phoenix Club.

Sarah and Chris Varga, owners of Sideways, Bugsy’s, and Ryleigh’s, along with partners Travis Smith and Ryan Smith will operate the new business.

Travis, who will handle booking for the venue, said the new bar will continue to focus on live music.

“We are going to try and help put some gas to the town’s music scene’s engine,” he said.

The new owners are sorting through the shows already on the books, and plan to honor as many of them as they can, Travis said, including the Black Flag show set for June 22 during Springfest.

The bar will be closed for a few days to get organized, and the plan is to reopen with the new name on Thursday, June 6.
