A crowd of about 75 people gathered at North College Avenue and West Dickson Street in Fayetteville to celebrate the Supreme Court’s rulings on same-sex marriage Wednesday.

The court’s decisions ended the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) ban on federal benefits for legally married gays and invalidated California’s Proposition 8 law against gay marriage.

The rally was organized by the NWA Center for Equality, an advocate group that serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) population of Northwest Arkansas.

Celebration of the rulings will continue this weekend when the annual NWA Pride Parade and Rally kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday on Dickson Street.
