It’s not uncommon for a TV news outlet to cover a power outage. It’s a little less common, however, to see the cause of the outage occur on-air.

That happened this morning, when a transformer exploded in the background of a live segment on a KNWA morning show, startling reporter Channing Barker.
Barker was in the middle of segment on summer mosquito problems – filmed on what appears to be a balcony on The Dickson – when a nearby transformer exploded in the background of the shot.
After being understandably startled, Barker remained professional, and no profanities were uttered on air.
In related news, some downtown residents may experience power outages this morning.
