Leverett Avenue will close for about eight weeks near the University of Arkansas campus to allow for a reconstruction project beginning Monday, July 8.

Transportation crews will work starting at 7 a.m. daily to replace sidewalks, curbing, and the street surface between Cleveland and Maple streets, city officials announced this week. Officials said the street will re-open each day at around 5 p.m.

Deteriorated sidewalks will be removed and replaced with 5-foot-wide walkways to meet current city standards. Curb and gutter will be replaced to improve drainage, and the asphalt street surface will be milled and replaced.

Traffic will be rerouted along Storer Avenue and Whitham Avenue, according to a news release.
