One of the longest-running and most well respected bluegrass bands in Portland, Ore. is coming to Fayetteville this week.

Jackstraw, a group that has spent over 15 years helping to develop the thriving bluegrass and old-time music scene in the city, is set to perform at Maxine’s Tap Room on Thursday, Oct. 10.

Formed in 1997 by rhythm guitarist Darrin Craig, lead guitarist Jon Neufeld, mandolin player David Pugh and bassist Jesse Withers, Jackstraw has released six records and toured the country playing roadhouses, clubs, listening rooms and festivals all over the country. Over that time, the band has performed with the likes of bluegrass legends Del McCoury, Tim O’Brien, and others.

Neufeld is known for his work in The Decemberists’ side project, Black Prairie, and well-known alt-country band that sometimes backs Damien Jurardo, Dolorean.

The band also has a Fayetteville connection in bass player Jesse Withers, who is the brother of Little Bread Co. and Maxine’s co-owner Hannah Withers.

The show is set to begin at around 8 p.m. on Thursday, and there’s no cover. For a bit more information, check out the event page on Facebook.
