The 25 most popular stories on the Flyer in 2013

With 2013 almost in the books, we thought it might be fun to look back at the top 25 most read stories on the Fayetteville Flyer as a way to remember the year that was.

A post simply announcing the dates of Bikes, Blues & BBQ received more traffic than any other story this year.

Post highlighting videos of some Arkansas fraternity members making an incredible basketball shot, and a Wedington liquor employee knocking over several cases of beer went crazy as well.

There’s been a ton of activity in the local restaurant world, and several of our popular restaurant news posts made the top 25 most read this year as well.

In all, we posted over 1,300 stories in 2013. We passed 9,000 followers on Twitter, over 10,000 likes on Facebook, and over 16,000 followers on Instagram.

It’s been a pretty awesome year.

In 2014, we promise to continue to try and provide helpful and useful news and information in as many convenient formats as possible. Thanks for your continued support of the Flyer, and the awesome sponsors that make the site possible.

Here are the most read stories from the site in 2013.

1. 2013 Bikes, Blues & BBQ Rally set for Sept. 18-21

A simple announcement of the dates for the 2013 Bikes, Blues & BBQ rally topped our list for the most visited story on the Flyer this year. The post received a huge influx of traffic in the weeks leading up to the rally, likely from visitors searching for information before heading to town.

A post listing the schedule of events for the rally also made the list of top 25 most read stories at No. 18.

2. Arkansas fraternity trick shot goes viral

We posted about a pretty incredible video featuring UA senior Cody Sanders making one of the most incredible trick basketball shots we’ve ever seen. Sanders bounced the ball off the roof a few times, and once on the ground before it swished through a waiting hoop, and UA student Nick Battisto happened to catch it on video.

If you didn’t see it, it’s really worth clicking and watching the video. It was a great shot, and a great capture by Battisto.

3. Wedington Liquor employee has worst day ever

A person stocking the cooler at Wedington Liquor provided a video that became our third most visited story on the site in 2013.

The employee knocked over a stack of cases, creating a domino effect that knocked over several other cases of beer, effectively ruining them.

It was a sad day for the delivery person, but several thousand Fayetteville residents ended up getting a laugh out of it.

4. Game times, TV info released for first three 2013-14 Razorback football games

The Bret Bielema Era of Razorback football officially began this year, and while the season didn’t turn out the way Hog fans would have liked, optimism and excitement was high when we posted the game times and television information for the first three football games of the season making it the fourth most trafficked post of the year.

The good news, Arkansas won all three of those games. The bad news, they never one another one for the rest or the season. Here’s hoping things will be better in 2014 for the Razorbacks.

5. KNWA reporter captures road rage incident

Another funny video ended up as the fifth most visited post on the site in 2013.

KNWA reporter Channing Barker was interviewing a spokesman for the UA police department for a story on game day traffic, when in the background of the shot, the driver of a blue Ford SUV nearly collided with a white sedan.

The SUV driver proceeded to yell at the sedan driver, cutting the KNWA interview short while the police officer dealt with the issue.
