A local musician and debate teacher at Fayetteville High School will perform at an official Grammy Awards party this month.

Barrett Baber, 33, was selected by a panel of celebrity judges as one of 40 finalists in CBS’s Grammy Gig of a Lifetime contest after being nominated by a local fan.

CBS officials on Saturday announced that Baber had won the top prize, meaning he will open for The Neighbourhood at Club Nokia in Los Angeles as part of the 56th annual Grammy Awards week festivities.

Fans were allowed to vote up to 50 times per day for their favorite artist at CBS.com. Baber spent most of the three-week voting period in the top spot.

This year’s Grammy Awards show is set for 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26.
