The Fayetteville Visitors Bureau last week honored Christopher Jones as the inaugural Hero of the Year recipient of its Hospitality Hero program.

Jones, who works at The Chancellor Hotel in downtown Fayetteville, received the award during a luncheon held Thursday at the Fayetteville Town Center.

From a recent Facebook comment:

Chris is amazing!! I stayed at The Chancellor Hotel back in early December during the snow/ice storm. Chris noticed that my front tire was extremely low. He drove me to the nearest gas station and filled my tire up with air!! He rocks!!

Jones was chosen from the 12 monthly winners who were honored in 2013 for their exceptional examples of the city’s ongoing commitment to provide outstanding service to visitors to the area.

The Hospitality Hero program, which began in January 2013, is designed to stimulate and reward exceptional customer service by employees working in the hospitality industry. In its first year, the program received 210 nominations from 22 hotels and restaurants in Fayetteville.

Jones was named Hospitality Hero of the Month in June.

Hospitality Heroes can be nominated guests, customers or managers at Fayetteville tourism industry-related businesses by filling out a Hospitality Hero Nomination Card or emailing the nomination into the Bureau. The cards are available at the Visitors Bureau, and are collected each month by Fayetteville Visitors Bureau staff members.

Nominations are reviewed each month, and a “Hospitality Hero of the Month” is selected. All those receiving at least one nomination receive an Experience Fayetteville lapel pin and award certificate.

As the Hero of the Year, Jones received an engraved plaque and a gift basket featuring items from local businesses, tickets to a Razorback basketball game, and tickets to a TheatreSquared production.
