Friday events, Feb. 14

The Razorback baseball team opens the season on Friday with a 3 p.m. game versus Appalachian State at Baum Stadium. Welcome back, Diamond Hogs.

TheatreSquared’s new show, the Tony-nominated Good People officially opens Friday at Nadine Baum Studios after a well-received preview performance on Thursday. There are performances scheduled throughout the weekend, actually.

Greenhouse Grille hosts its annual Valentine’s Day jazz dinner Friday night with the soundtrack for romance provided by Alex Lewis.

There’s a Valentine’s burlesque show in town as well, with Violetta Lotus Burlesque set to perform at The Lightbulb Club. There will also be a poetry reading by local poet Houston Hughes. Admission is $5.

Saturday events, Feb. 15

Fayetteville Underground hosts a kickoff reception for the UpStream Art Project at 5 p.m. Saturday. The folks behind the project will be available to answer questions, and to show off work from the last round of murals painted on local storm drains.

Local comedy improv troupe Phunbags will be back in action at Dickson Theater Saturday night. This month, they’ll be joined by local songwriter Candy Lee (who also happens to be one of seven finalist in the Song of Arkansas Competition.)

SoNA performs its Valentine’s Pops show at Walton Arts Center Saturday night. The show features love-inspired classical and operatic music along with “a dash of musical theatre thrown in for spice.” Here’s more info.

Also in tunes, Louisiana funky gypsy band Vagabond Swing will be at Smoke & Barrel Tavern, there’s a country show at George’s Majestic Lounge, and The Lightbulb Club has a metal show with Mud Lung, Antarctichrist and Crankbait.
