Fayetteville Farmers’ Market season begins in April

With the warmer weather we’ve been experiencing the last few days, the question on just about every set of lips in Fayetteville is, “When does the Fayetteville Farmers’ Market open?”

The answer? Soon. Very soon.

The first market on the square of the 2014 season is set for Saturday, April 5. After that, the market will be open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.

Beginning May 4, a new Sunday market is planned on the playground at Jefferson Center, 612 S. College Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new location, it appears, will replace the market at the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks.

Also, for the past few weeks, several market vendors have set up shop inside St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Saturdays. The last of those early events is Saturday, March 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Fayetteville Farmers’ Market includes around 60 vendors, selling all kinds of locally-grown flowers, produce, meats, eggs, baked goods, plants, and arts and crafts.

Expect to see musicians performing on each corner, community groups passing out brochures, politicians kissing babies, and tons of people circling the square in the warm spring air while browsing the locally-grown awesomeness.

Also, expect to see just about everyone you know down there. It’s awesome.

For now, mark your calendars for Saturday, April 5. We’ll see you at the Farmers’ Market.
