UAPD increases security following report of threat

University of Arkansas Police are asking the campus community to remain on alert following a report of a possible shooting threat.

Campus police received a report Wednesday morning from a man who said he overheard a conversation Tuesday night at a local bar in which another man claimed there would be a shooting on the university campus the following day.

“Since getting the report, UAPD has been investigating, and while the threat does not appear to be credible, the campus community is advised to be on alert and extra vigilant in their activities today,” officials stated in a news release.

According to the release, the university has added extra patrols to campus on Wednesday.

The campus is not on lockdown, and no classes have been cancelled.

Students, faculty and anyone on campus are asked to report any suspicious activities to by calling 575-2222 or 911 for an emergency.

University police will continue to investigate the situation.
