A new coffee shop and craft beer bar will open on Dickson Street this fall.

Locals Richard Cole and Kevin Frey are planning to remodel space inside the building currently occupied by Nightbird Books for a new business called Puritan Brew Co. The company will share the space with outdoor clothing and apparel company, Fayettechill.

Frey was formerly a barista at local coffee shop, Onyx Coffee Labs, and said that coffee lovers can expect a similar level of quality with Puritan’s brewed creations.

The shop will also serve “high end” craft beer, Frey said.

“We’re not wanting the bar to have the typical feel of Dickson Street,” he said. “We’re going for something different. When people think of where to go to get the best Prairie Artisan Ales, for example, we want them to think of us.”

Renovations will begin sometime in mid-August. If all goes according to plan, the new bar and coffee shop will be open sometime in late fall or early winter.
