More volunteers needed this week for bike assembly events

Fayetteville school district officials are seeking another round of volunteers this week to help unpack bicycles.

No bike service skills are necessary. Volunteers will only be asked to unpack the bikes and get them ready for mechanics to finish the assembly.

Volunteers are needed from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 and Thursday, Aug. 14 in the Fayetteville High School Agriculture Department bays along Bulldog Boulevard.

Once assembled, the bicycles will be distributed to schools throughout the district as part of a new bicycle education program led by the Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks.

The group has been working to expand the Fayetteville Bike Ed program through the 12th grade so that students will have more time to acquire bike handling and safety skills, be encouraged to ride their bikes more, and to learn about the city’s trail system.
