Actor, director, author, and producer LeVar Burton is coming to Fayetteville next month.

Burton, who is probably best known as the host of the long-running children’s show Reading Rainbow, will be in town for an Oct. 22 appearance at Fayetteville Public Library.

Reading Rainbow ran for 23 seasons beginning in 1983 on PBS. The show went off the air in 2006, but Burton and a business partner bought the rights to the show, and turned it into the No. 1 educational iPad app in 2012.

Burton made headlines earlier this year for his Kickstarter campaign to expand the app to the web and other platforms, and to offer the program free to classrooms around the country. The campaign was a huge success, reaching their $1 million goal in 11 hours, and surpassing it fivefold before it expired in July, with over $5 million raised to date.

Burton is also well known for his roles as Kunta Kinte in the landmarkk television series Roots, and as Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

This fall, he’ll release his first children’s book, The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm, due out Oct. 7.

According to the library’s website, his Oct. 22 appearance is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

We’ll add ticket information here as soon as it becomes available. For now, we embedded the Reading Rainbow theme song below to get you pumped up for the show.

Update: According to a spokesperson for Fayetteville Public Library, the event is part of a celebration of 10 years in the current location. Burton’s appearance will include a discussion moderated by Ozarks at Large producer Kyle Kellams.

It is a free event, but seating is limited (about 300). Doors open at 6 p.m.
