Backspace hosts drawing marathon fundraiser

Several local artists have been drawing for the past 24 hours in support of a local creative space, and they’ll sell their newly created work at a reception scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight (Sept. 18).

Backspace, the hybrid gallery, music venue, and event space located at 541 W Meadow St., has been hosting a series of events called “Backrub for Backspace” to raise operating funds for the space.

The drawing marathon began at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and several local artists burned the midnight oil at the space creating work that will be sold at tonight’s special curated gallery show. During the reception, you can pay what you want for any drawings or sections of drawings.

Artists that have contributed to the marathon include Ben Flowers, Jane Kang, Connor Smith, Luke Knox, Kate Nichols, and others.

Proceeds from the sale of the art go to help sustain Backspace as a venue for music, art shows, readings, and other DIY cultural events.
