The oppressive heat of the Arkansas summer has vanished, and the refreshing chill of fall is arriving, making it a the perfect time of year for outdoor music.

Just in time, Los Angeles pop band Foster the People is coming to town for a show at the AMP in a few weeks.

The band, best known for their 2011 hit “Pumped up Kicks,” will play the venue on Thursday, Oct. 9 with fellow L.A. band, Fitz and the Tantrums.

Foster the People was formed in 2009 by multi-instrumentalist Mark Foster, who began recording the band’s signature dance-y melodic pop before adding bassist Cubbie Fink and drummer Mark Pontius.

The following year, the band posted the ultra-catchy “Pumped up Kicks” to their website, where it took off almost immediately. The track garnered an instant online buzz and radio play, and lead to a packed SXSW showcase. Ultimately, it landed the band a contract with Columbia’s Startime International label. When the song appeared on the band’s 2011 self-titled EP, it became a worldwide hit.

Earlier this year, the band released their sophomore album Supermodel, produced by Grammy winner Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence and the Machine, John Legend).

Tickets to the show are $32, and are on sale now at waltonartscenter.org. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.

You won’t have to worry about tickets, though, if you’re the winner of our ticket giveaway. Good luck.
