If you look at the list of sponsors we work with here at the Fayetteville Flyer, you’ll find a lot of similarities among the diverse group of businesses there.

You’ll find a lot of locally-owned places. You’ll recognize a lot of their logos from the posters for the community events that contribute to the incredible quality of life we have here in Fayetteville. And though there are plenty of new businesses there as well, you’ll find that a lot of them have long histories serving the local community here.

We think our newest sponsor, UARK Federal Credit Union, is going to fit in quite nicely.

The cooperative was started in 1965 by some University of Arkansas employees, and has been serving Northwest Arkansas for 50 years as of this year.

They offer products similar to a bank, including savings and checking accounts, loans, credit cards, and mortgages, but as a member-owned, not-for-profit coop, all the profit is returned to the member base in the way of services, better rates, and lower fees than banks typically give.

They’re governed by a member-elected board, and are insured by the NCUA for at least $250,000 per person, so you know your money is safe with them.

And while they aren’t a massive chain that you’ll find on every block in town, they do participate in a coop-shared branching network, which means their members can access their accounts at over 5000 participating credit unions nationwide.

Recently, they launched a really fun kids club savings account, where kids earn “cents” each time they make a $5 deposit that they can cash-in at “Penny’s Store” inside the bank, as well as their own piggy bank to start making good habits and learn about the importance of saving money.
