SoNA to perform ‘Masterworks II: Fairytales’ Jan. 31

The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA) will perform their first concert of 2015 next weekend, and if the name is any indication, their latest show will be almost too good to be true.

The symphony will perform their new Masterworks II: Fairytales concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Walton Arts Center.

The concert, performed under the baton of music director Paul Haas, will include performances of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, a recount of Sinbad’s adventures from Arabian Nights; Khachaturian’s “Adagio” from Spartacus; and Stravinsky’s suite from The Firebird.

“Music tells a story, and SoNA’s ‘Fairytales’ is devoted to pieces that accomplish that storytelling in a dramatic and compelling way,” Haas said. “With a kaleidoscope of instrumental colors and breathtaking virtuosity, SoNA musicians will bring these tales to life in stunning definition.”

Before the show, ticket holders are invited to a creative conversation with Haas beginning at 6:30 p.m. After the Jan. 31 performances, two concerts remain in SoNA’s season with Masterworks III “Surf and Turf” set for Saturday, March 7, and the Season Finale Concert “A Night at the Movies” scheduled on Saturday, April 25.

Ticket prices for Masterworks II range from $28-$50, and can be purchased online at waltonartscenter.org, or by calling the Walton Arts Center box office at 479-443-5600.
