Friday events, Feb. 27

There’s some good music for a good cause happening at Backspace Friday night. Five bands, including Dana Louise, Witchsister, RAT BRATS, Llinda, and C-Rex (Springfield, MO) will perform beginning at 9 a.m., and all the proceeds from the event go to the NWA Rape Crisis Center. Admission is $5.

Also in music, Mike Shirkey has a show at the Fayetteville Underground with Steve Fisher, Ed Carr, and Dennis Collins, the Australian Bee Gees are at the WAC, local country band Backroad Anthem is at George’s, reggae band Rochelle Brandshaw & Hypnotion is at Smoke & Barrel, and there’s a rock show at The Lightbulb Club with Pagiins and Hydrogen Child.

Saturday events, Feb. 28

The chili cookoff we mentioned earlier this week is Saturday morning at the Fayetteville Town Center. It’s called Chilirha, it starts at noon, and proceeds benefit local Alzheimer’s research.

There’s an interesting sounding experimental theatre show playing this weekend at The Nines called Tender Comrades. Here’s a bit more info.

Music wise, punk-rock karaoke company Karaoke Underground is at The Lightbulb Club (sing your favorite underground songs), The Inner Party will celebrate their CD release at Ryleigh’s with The Good Fear, and blue grassers Mountain Sprout and Arkansauce are at George’s.

There’s also a rare Sunday night folk show at JR’s Lightbulb Club with songwriter Ken Gaines. It starts early at 7 p.m.
