Walton Arts Center to pre-screen Pitch Perfect 2 at a cappella festival

The first ever VoiceJam a Cappella festival is coming to Walton Arts Center next month. In addition to performances by some of the best vocal groups from around the world, the event will also include an early look at an upcoming feature film.

Organizers this week announced a pre-screening of Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the popular 2012 film directed by Fayetteville native Jason Moore, will be part of the festival lineup.

The new film, directed by Elizabeth Banks, stars Anna Kendrik, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson and Elizabeth Banks, and is set to be released in theaters in May.

The two day VoiceJam festival is set for April 10-11 at Walton Arts Center, kicking off with an a cappella competition on Friday night at 8 p.m., workshops all day on Saturday, and a showcase event featuring professional ensembles at 7 p.m. on Saturday that will also include a pre-screening of the film.

Competitors include Mellow Divas of Berkely Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida, DeltaCappella from Memphis, Tennessee, Snowday of Gaithersburg, Maryland, The ILL Harmonic of The University of Illinois, among several others.

Deke Sharon, hailed as “the father of contemporary a cappella,” will host the event, and professional groups The House Jacks and Voco Novo will be featured performers at the Saturday night showcase.

Festival passes range from $70-100, and individual events are $15-50.
