Weekend Flyer: May 8-10, 2015

Friday events, May 8

It’s graduation weekend in Fayetteville, and those who have lived here for any significant length of time know what that means. Restaurants will be packed, there will be more traffic than usual, and people (and their parents and aunts and uncles and cousins) will be everywhere. Get ready.

It’s also the last home baseball series of the season at Baum Stadium. The Diamond Hogs are on fire lately, winning six straight SEC series, and the struggling Tennessee Volunteers are coming to town for games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There’s some rain in the forecast this weekend, so keep in mind that game times may shift around some around the weather. Friday night’s game is scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m.

Just up the road, the Bentonville Film Festival is in full swing up north. Here’s a link to the schedule.

There’s plenty of good music in town as well. Local songwriter Barrett Baber is at George’s with up and coming local artist Madison Watkins, Tulsa rock band Native Lights (featuring members of Ester Drang and Unwed Sailor) is at the Lightbulb Club, and locals Galaxy Tour Guides are at Smoke & Barrel.

Saturday events, May 9

The University of Arkansas will host commencement ceremonies for the majority of their schools and colleges on Saturday, so there will be thousands of extra parents in town, and everyone will be ready to celebrate. It’ll be packed, but kind of a blast.

More than 400 beers including several that have never been available in Arkansas, will be ready to be sampled at the fourth annual Fayetteville Foam Fest from 5-9 p.m. in the Walton Arts Center parking lot. Here’s more information about the event.

Want to see a bunch of sweet houses while helping out a local school? Maybe you should head out to the Washington Elementary Tour of Homes on Saturday. There are six houses on the tour this year. Here are more details about that.

There’s a mini-comedy festival at Nomad’s Music Lounge on Saturday night. Memphis in Fay will feature five comedians from Memphis doing their best standup. Admission is $5.

Music wise, there’s a huge show at George’s with Elephant Revival and Smokey & the Mirror. If it’s not sold out yet, it might be by Saturday night. Just a heads up. Here’s ticket info.

JR’s has a serious rock show with locals LLinda, Bik Fliqqr, and the Waltons, and Kingfish has Southern Missouri Americana band Joshin the Giants.
