Thunder on the Mountain festival cancelled

For whatever reason, the folks behind Wakarusa and the upcoming Phases of the Moon festival can’t seem to get their country music festival off the ground.

Thunder on the Mountain, which was originally scheduled for June 26-28 on the Mulberry Mountain, has been cancelled just two weeks prior to the event.

Organizers announced the cancellation via a post on the festival’s Facebook page over the weekend.

“It is with great regret that due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to hold Thunder on the Mountain which was due to take place June 26 – 28 near Ozark, AR,” officials stated.

No other reason for the cancellation was offered, however, organizers did post a follow-up to say that it was not due to festival sponsors pulling out at the last minute as some commenters had suggested.

The festival, created by Kansas-based Pipeline Productions, debuted in 2013 on Mulberry Mountain and was set to become “the Midwest’s premiere country festival.” After its debut, the event was put on hold in 2014, but organizers said the festival would return in 2015. The lineup for the event was announced in December, and included some of the biggest names in country music including Carrie Underwood, Zac Brown Band, and The Band Perry.

According to organizers, anyone who purchased physical tickets can return them to the outlet where they bought them for a full refund. Ticket holders who purchased tickets online will be refunded via the credit card they used to purchase the tickets.
