Water Liars

Get out your hula skirt, and get ready to shimmy, Fayetteville. The first ever (as far as we can remember) public luau in the streets of Fayetteville is happening on Center Street Friday night. It’s a grand opening celebration for Hawaiian Brian’s, and there will be entertainment inside and on the street including hula dancers, fire dancers, and more.

There’s huge show at The Lightbulb Club Friday night as well, with Mississippi-based band, Water Liars, along with locals Lo-Res and Ryan Pickop. Pickop, who’s opening the show, is playing with a new band. It’s the second show of a 10-show run for Water Liars, who also just finished a new album. It’s gonna be crowded.

Also in music, George’s annual Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash is scheduled for Friday night as well. Dallas-based Grateful Dead tribute band Forgotten Space will perform. Tickets are $12.

Arkansauce

Trout Fishing in America, Fayetteville’s favorite folk duo/children’s music outfit will perform a free show at Fayetteville Public Library on Saturday. It’s the finale for the library’s Summer Reading Series. The show starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Walker Room. Update: The show is in the Children’s Reading Room.

There’s a “bike-in” outdoor movie night and fundraiser at The Art Experience Friday night. They’re showing E.T., and eating some pizza outside their facility at 641 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. As the name suggests, folks are encouraged to ride their bike to the event.

Local folk/bluegrass band Arkansauce will perform at George’s Saturday night. They’re also putting the finishing touches on a new album that we’ve heard is pretty incredible. Joplin based Joshin the Giants will open the show.

There’s also a rock show at The Lightbulb Club, with locals Pagiins, The Chads, and Kentucky-based Buffalo Rodeo.
