Eight area animal shelters will offer discounted adoptions this weekend as part of a collaborative event to help empty some cages across Northwest Arkansas.

The “Empty Our Shelters” adoption event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11 and Saturday, Sept. 12 at the following locations: Fayetteville Animal Services, Springdale Animal Services, Lowell Animal Services, Rogers Animal Services, Bella Vista Animal Shelter, Siloam Springs Animal Services, Madison County Animal Shelter, and the Lester C. Howick Animal Shelter of Washington County.

Adoption fees will be reduced to $10 during the event. Each shelter will follow its normal adoption application policies and procedures.

Fayetteville Animal Services, located at 1640 S. Armstrong Ave., will be open Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the event.

“We are so excited to work together to bring the idea of adopting your next pet to the front of people’s minds,” said Justine Lentz, Fayetteville’s Animal Services superintendent. “Northwest Arkansas is an amazing place to live and we know it is full of animal lovers.”

Similar events have been held across the country, including last year’s Empty the Shelter Day held in the Dallas, Texas area. The event included 23 participating shelters, and found homes for over 2,200 animals, according to The Dallas Morning News.

“If Texas can empty their cages, I know Northwest Arkansas can do the same,” said Lentz.
