City to unveil Kessler Mountain trails plan

Fayetteville officials will present the first draft of a master plan for the trails atop Kessler Mountain during a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14 at the University of Arkansas Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center, 1335 W. Knapp Street.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department has been working with Progressive Trail Design to prepare the plan which will help guide existing trails management practices and future trail improvements for the 390-acre Kessler Mountain area, located next to the regional park being built in southwest Fayetteville.

A public meeting was held to gather opinions about the project in August, and an online survey collected input in October and November.

Officials are expected to request even more input from the public during the unveiling of the plan on Monday.

Those who cannot attend the meeting can view the plan on the city’s website at www.fayetteville-ar.gov beginning Tuesday, Dec. 15. Public comment will be accepted through Friday, Dec. 31 and can be submitted online, by email to [email protected], or by mail to: Fayetteville Parks and Recreation, 113 W. Mountain Street, Fayetteville, AR 72701.
