A string of great bands are set to stop in Fayetteville over the next few weeks. The fun begins with the indie-focused On the Map Fest on March 24-25.

After a quick rest, things heat up at George’s Majestic Lounge with a big run of dates, including April 4 when Austin-based indie pop band Wild Child opens for psych-pop rockers Dr. Dog.

Founded five years ago by core duo Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins, the twosome has since evolved into a full band with a growing grassroots following.

The group’s 2011 debut album Pillow Talk notched four No. 1 singles on Hype Machine, while the 2013 followup The Runaround brought glowing reviews from NPR, Paste, and Popmatters, as well as a live performance on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson .

Their latest release is an unashamed breakup album inspired by Wilson’s split from her fiancé of five years, and the divorce of her parents.

The combined events sent Wilson’s writing into a screeching skid followed by a full throttle ride that would become Fools.

“It was the first time that I’d ever had writer’s block,” she said. “Within a week, all of the lyrics just came out.”

While the new songs were written by Wilson and Beggins, the album was arranged with input from the now seven-piece band.

Have a listen below to the title track from Fools, then step back in time a few years for 2013’s “Crazy Bird.”
