Construction work on Interstate 49 in Johnson and Springdale will require overnight lane closures, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 12, crews will continue overlaying the existing roadway between Johnson Mill Boulevard and U.S. Highway 412. Northbound and southbound lanes on I-49 will alternately be closed overnight between mile markers 68 and 72 to allow for construction.

The overnight closures are expected to last through Friday, June 17.

The work is part of the highway department’s Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening I-49 to three lanes in each direction from Johnson to Springdale. The $28.3 million project is anticipated to be complete in early 2017.
