A portion of East Rock Street will soon close on weekdays for about 11 weeks while crews work to construct a new sidewalk and make drainage improvements.

Officials said Rock Street will be closed to traffic between North College Avenue and Mill Avenue from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The work is expected to begin Monday, June 13 and be completed by Aug. 31, according to a news release.

The project includes a new sidewalk on the north side of Rock, new curb and gutter, and new asphalt overlay. The drainage improvements are expected to help alleviate flooding issues on the street during heavy rainfall and should help minimize ice collection during winter storms.

Officials released a map of suggested alternative routes during construction hours.
