Motorists should expect some traffic delays when driving along North College Avenue near downtown Fayetteville this week.

One northbound lane and one southbound lane will be closed on College beginning Tuesday morning. The outer northbound lane from Davidson Street to Rebecca Street will be closed at all times through Friday, July 15, according to a news release. The inner southbound lane from Cleburn Street to Maple Street will also be closed through Friday, but only from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.

City transportation crews discovered a failure in the street base while working on the College Avenue Improvement Project, and were forced to widen the work zone in order to address the issue.

From the news release:

Flaggers will be present to allow construction vehicles to enter and exit the work area. Please use extreme caution when in the work area and watch for personnel and equipment.
