Youth Splash and Dash aquathon set for Aug. 12 at Wilson Park

Grab your running shoes and your swimsuits, kids. It’s almost time for a race.

Fayetteville’s second annual Splash and Dash aquathon event for kids is set for Friday, Aug. 12 at Wilson Park.

The race combines swimming and running, and is intended to introduce folks to multi-sports racing. It is open to kids and young adults from 7 to 18 years old, and distances for the swim/run vary depending on the participant’s age (see below for specifics).

Registration is $20 (increases to $30 after July 30), and available online at onlinesignup.org. Race day registration will not be available.

Kids interested in competing may try out the swim portion of the event at Wilson Park Pool from 3-5 p.m. on July 13, from 1-3 p.m. on July 21, and on July 25 from 4-6 p.m.

Parks and Recreation staff is seeking folks to help out with the race as well. Volunteers will receive receive a t-shirt and day pass to the Wilson Park Pool. Sign up is available at givepulse.com.

Splash and Dash Race Distances

7-8 years old: Swim 80 yards and run a 1/2 mile
9-10 years old: Swim 120 yards and run a 1/2 mile
11-12 years old: Swim 160 yards and run 1 mile
13-18 years old: Swim 200 yards and run 1 mile
