Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash

For the past 11 years, the folks at George’s Majestic Lounge has celebrated former Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia’s birthday with an evening of music. This year, they make it 12. Dallas-based Grateful Dead tribute band Forgotten Space will perform. Tickets are here.

You could also grab your partner, and head to Backspace for another installment of their monthly square dance. It starts at 8 p.m., featuring live old time string music with Nathan McAllister & Kim Lansford.

Shawn James and the Shapeshifters

Fayetteville Farmers’ Market’s annual Salsa Fest is set for Saturday morning. The event, intended as a celebration of the summer tomato season, will feature a salsa making competition with spicy creations by several local restaurants, and other festivities. Here’s more information.

Fayetteville Public Library is turning 100, and they’re celebrating on Saturday. There’s a juggler at 10:30 a.m., and a performance by local party band Ultrasuede at 11:30 a.m. Here’s a bit more info.

There’s also a big community event at Gulley Park on Saturday. The NWA CommUNITY Cares event we mentioned yesterday is set for 12 p.m., and will include several guest speakers including Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan, State Rep.
