Over the course of our nearly 10 years of working on the Flyer, one of our favorite things about the job are the friends we’ve made along the way.

From the regular readers, commenters and contributors to the site that we’ve gotten to know, to the owners of the local places that help keep the site alive, our little site has definitely allowed us to meet some of the best folks in Fayetteville over the years.

Of all of those, none are more down to earth and overall awesome than Allen and Shawna Brumett over at Sassy’s.

BBQ Nachos

We also love seeing those folks turn their passions into success, and that’s exactly what the Brumett’s have done since they opened their restaurant on College Avenue back in 2009.

They opened their first restaurant in what many considered to be a cursed location, and turned it into a Fayetteville staple by serving consistently good food, and taking care of their customers in a great atmosphere in the old house converted in a restaurant on College Avenue. They also signed up as sponsors of the Flyer right from the beginning, and it’s been incredible to watch the restaurant continue to grow and grow in that location.

This month, they opened their second restaurant, this one called Sassy’s BBQ & Grille, at 1290 Steamboat Drive just off Wedington Drive in West Fayetteville.

They completely renovated and reconfigured the building, opening up the space, and moving the bar over to the south side of the building near the patio.

That catfish, though.

Like the other Sassy’s location, the menu focuses on barbecue but also offers plenty of sandwiches, salads, wraps, and other dishes for folks who like variety. The catfish that has become a staple over at the original location is also on the menu at the new spot.

The new location has a large bar area, with lots more taps, which will allow them to expand their local craft beer selection, and their selection of wine and aged whiskeys have also expanded.

They’ve got a great happy hour every Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m., with $1.50 off all drafts starting at 3 p.m. (every 30 minutes the discount goes down by a quarter, kind of like beat the clock), $3 wells, and $1 off all their mule drinks.

They offer the same lunch specials as the original Red House Location, and they’ll be offering new specials soon.

And just like the other location, there are plenty of TVs (nineteen, to be exact) for watching the Hogs (or whoever’s playing), and a huge outdoor patio for enjoying the gorgeous Fayetteville fall weather.

If all goes well, the new location could be a prototype for future Sassy’s locations outside of Fayetteville.

“We know we could never recreate the Red House, but we wanted to create something that’s different but that could also stand on its own,” Allen told us recently.

For now, though, the new location adds another great option for lunch or dinner to the fast-growing Wedington area of West Fayetteville.

We’re thrilled that they’ve jumped on board along with their original restaurant to help sponsor the content we create on the Flyer every day.

Please help us welcome them to the family by stopping by lunch, dinner, or drinks soon!
